Sustainable Development and Conservation
FUNDECODES works to promote balance between conservation and development on the Nicoya Peninsula by coordinating public and private efforts to promote sustainable development and conservation. It works with local communities, farmers, businesses and government agencies, especially the Tempisque Conservation Area (ACT). Although it provides technical assistance and education for sustainable development, it focuses especially on project management and raising and administering funds to support the efforts of the ACT. It is based in Hojancha.
The GCF, with funding from the Las Catalinas Donor Advised Fund, provided $5,000 to FUNDECODES to support efforts of the ACT to fight wildfires during the 2015 dry season. In 2016, the Las Catalinas fund approved funding for a new potable water system for the park.
